As a young man, and thanks to my dad, I was heavily into photography, even to the point that I had a darkroom and did my own black and
white developing and printing. We never owned a movie camera though, so it wasn't until video cameras came along that I got into making movies. Even
then, it took the imminent birth of my son to force the issue of buying a video camera. In those days, almost 20 years ago, they were bulky VHS cameras
that rested on your shoulder as you shot your footage. One thing I will say about that is it made for much steadier shots. In fact, I made a shoulder
mount for my first Hi8 camera for that very reason.

BACKYARD BIRD FEEDING; A STORY OF ENTRAPMENT

About the time we got our first video camera (1987), we also got into bird feeding thanks to the gift of a small feeder from my father-in-law. Before we knew it, we were spending $300/year on bird seed. Naturally, we took lots of video of the birds (and squirrels). After about two or three years I realized that I had enough footage to make a short nature film. So here it is. I will say that lots of folks have watched this and enjoyed it. It's not your typical family film. I hope you enjoy it as well. Running time is about 38 minutes. |

I had so much fun with the bird video (above), I decided to make one of all of the creepy-crawly creatures we found living in our yard when we moved to Florida a few years later. You might be surprised by the variety of creatures there are to be found. Running time is about 40 minutes. |
THE TRAM CAM

I bought a CVS one-time-use video camera with the primary intent of strapping it to my son's radio controlled model airplane and taking some aerial videos, which I eventually did (see below). However, I first had a little fun putting it on our model train. So here is "The Tram Cam," where you can get a passenger's view onboard an HO scale model train. It runs about 2 minutes. |

I did a few straight and level shots. In this video, the camera faces to the side as if you were a passenger looking out the window. It runs about 6 minutes. |
